“… I hope it feels like there was fun making it…because I did and that’s what counts,”

NGJ’s album ‘Flavours For All Five Senses’ was officially released last year on May 28th 2021.

The album hits with a subtle bang of nostalgic beats and melodies accompanied by NGJ’s unique vocals. The emotions poured into the lyrics makes the told story feel very much relatable.

This is expected as the ‘Flavours For All Five Senses’ mostly symbolises NGJ’s healing.

NGJ (Nice Guy Jonny) is a musician and recording artist from the North East of England. He was born and raised in Sunderland, schooled in Durham and went to work in Middlesbrough.

NGJ had a lot of experience making music as a drummer in many bands before deciding to make his own music. This was his resolve to keep the process of making music fresh and most importantly making it fun!

Like everyone else, NGJ was affected by the 2020 escalation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There’s no denying 2020 was a ridiculous year, for lack of a better adjective! We’ve all had a lot of healing to do myself included and making this music was a part of it!” NGJ explained.

“The biggest part of the healing process is sharing the experience and, like many musicians I know we don’t only use words to express ourselves, we use songs to tell our stories……and these are mine to share with you.” NGJ continued.

“Compared to the music I grew up with and played in bands to…people might have expected something different from me. On top of the global pandemic, I went through a huge period of upheaval and disruption.”

“I decided to focus myself on music and from a blank sheet….this is what emerged. It might seem fractured, it might seem lost but at the same time, I hope it feels like there was fun making it…because I did and that’s what counts,” NGJ concluded.

Sure enough, NGJ has strong attachments to his roots. The North East will forever be etched to his music and identity. Just like he describes his experiences, ‘Beautiful but broken in parts, sometimes rugged yet always resilient and always groovy!’

There’s something unique about NGJ’s music. I just can’t seem to put my finger around it. But one thing is certain, the hint of nostalgia in ‘Flavours For All Five Senses’ is bound to put you in a relaxed mood.
