Hazel Brown, born in October 1999 in Lüneburg, Germany, started her music career by releasing the single “With Me” in 2012 on Soundcloud.

Though she was very young at the time she continued to write songs on her guitar and occasionally record them with the help of her father.

Throughout her school years she performed on various small stages and continued honing her craft. After graduation she signed up for the German Navy while working on and writing songs.

In March 2020 she released her debut EP, Fallen Too Far. This got her hooked, not just to the writing process but to the production of music as well, having recorded and produced everything at home.

The singer got in contact with Desso, a soon to be frequent collaborator, and wrote the single Green which was released in June 2020, shortly followed by Hazels solo single “Now That It Fell”

In June 2021, Hazel released the first single, “Honey”, from her second EP, ‘Stay A Little Longer’. This second project came out in November 2021 with six songs including another collaboration with Desso on You Can Break My Heart.

The gradual process of learning from one EP to the next is something that Hazel is very proud of and always strives for.

Her introspective lyrics and sense of melody will continue to be present in her upcoming work.

Behind The EP – ‘Stay A Little Longer’

Hazel gives a full description on the drive behind her EP, ‘Stay A Little Longer’:

“This project shines a light on the thoughts traveling through my head, things I’ve only recently discovered or accepted about myself,” Hazel started.

“The first track ‘Welcome To My Psychedelic Dreamland‘ is menat to be an intro to the EP.

The song, as seen in the title and its first line, welcomes the listener into my head. This bare openness can be very scary and I wanted to show that through the imagery in the lyrics.

I have always cared too much about what people think or perceive me to be, something I believe many people, including myself, are working on changing.

The next song ‘You Can Break My Heart‘ was born out of collaboration with the Italian artist Desso, and was the last track to be added to this EP.

I originally wrote it as a love story gone bad, though these days I interpret the words as more directed at myself. The chorus is very important to me: ‘You can break my heart, I’ve got plenty in store, we are way past having anything to loose anymore’.

It shows that this bad love has found its end, and that that is ok. I am strong, and I am resilient, I’ll survive.

High & Sober‘ is me coming to terms with my sexuality. This is something I have struggled for years with, always asking myself if my feelings are for real or if I’m just faking it for attention.

The song is about regretting how I treated someone, and how they still changed my life. “High & Sober” was also the hardest song to finish, I remember having lost of issues with the sound, but it was important to me that it made it onto the EP. Now it is secretly my favourite track.

I wrote the forth song “Honey” a long time before even thinking about putting together a second EP.

It was written while I was underway with the navy, in a state of anger that I was perceived as a smiling, happy girl.

I disliked this people-pleaser side of me so I stormed off in a huff and wrote the complete song in one go. “Honey” was the first single of this EP that I released and in my opinion a very good introduction to what I wanted this project to be about.

All I Got‘ is another song following the idea of an unbalanced relationship.

One partner gives while the other takes all. I wanted it to have a very raw and acoustic sound, so I played the Bass, and recorded my brother on the snare.

My best friend was in, what turns out to be, a bad relationship and I drew a lot of inspiration from that,”

“The last track ‘End Credits‘ is the outro, taking themes from the previous songs and repeating them. It rounds off the stories told over the course of this EP.

I have discovered a lot about myself whilst writing, that is what I seem to use and need my music for. Through this EP I could share a lot of things about myself that I normally wouldn’t.
It is also very important to me that people draw their own interpretation from my music, even mine can change over time.” she concluded.

Hazel’s ‘Stay A Little Longer’ is centered around a desperate romance. At least that’s the impression I get every time I listen to the EP. The narations are based on Hazel’s experiences, so it’s easy to relate.
